Luxury Golf Group Tours in Southeast Asia: The AGS Group Experience Guide

By Asia Golf Specialists·15 April 2026·9 min read

A golf group tour to Southeast Asia is, in our experience, the trip that most golf societies in Australia have been talking about for years but haven't yet organised. The combination of world-class courses, private villa accommodation, and value-compared-to-peers makes it the obvious group travel decision — but someone needs to organise it.

Asia Golf Specialists manages every element of group golf tours in Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia — from tee time coordination across multiple courses to villa sourcing, airport transfer staging, and group competition logistics. Here's how we do it, and what makes a group trip exceptional.

Group Sizing and Villa Configuration

The private villa model is the foundation of the AGS group experience. A single villa for 8–12 players creates a cohesive social environment that hotels cannot replicate:

Single Villa (6–10 players)

  • One communal pool and social space
  • Shared villa staff and kitchen
  • 5–6 bedrooms, private bathrooms
  • Competition scoring over shared dinners

Dual-Villa (10–20 players)

  • Adjacent villas, connected via garden
  • Shared group dinners across both properties
  • Greater bedroom privacy for larger groups
  • Two pools — morning splits, evening gatherings

Tee Time Coordination

Securing consecutive tee times for a group of 8–16 at Vietnam's premier courses requires advance planning and established relationships. AGS secures dedicated time blocks — typically 4 starting times in sequence — that keep the group together on the course and prevent the fragmentation of playing partners across separate waves.

For groups larger than 16, AGS splits the group into morning and afternoon waves at different courses on select days, then reunites the group at the villa for the evening competition scoring and dinner.

The Group Competition

Every AGS group trip runs a Stableford competition across all golf rounds. We provide scorecards, a running leaderboard (updated at the villa each evening), and individual round statistics. On the final evening, the leaderboard is revealed at a formal dinner (poolside at the villa, by default) with prizes presented — typically a running trophy that nominates the next trip's host to choose the destination.

We've found that the group competition transforms the trip from a holiday that's merely enjoyable to one that's genuinely unforgettable. Every shot matters. Every round builds the narrative. The conversation at dinner on night 6 circles back to the par-4 on Day 2 at Hoiana Shores that cost someone the lead.

Popular Group Trip Formats

The Classic Vietnam 7-Day

4 rounds across Da Nang's circuit, private villa, Hoi An cultural day. 8–12 players. AGS's most common group format.

The Dual-Destination 10-Day

Vietnam (Da Nang) + Thailand (Hua Hin) — 6 competitive rounds across two countries, two villa properties. See the full 10-day itinerary guide.

The Grand Tour 14-Day

Vietnam + Cambodia + Thailand — the flagship AGS group experience with 8+ competitive rounds, Angkor Wat cultural anchor, and three luxury bases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ideal group size for a Southeast Asia golf tour?+

The sweet spot for a villa-based group golf tour is 8–12 players. This size fills a private villa (or two connected villas), creates a competitive but cohesive group Stableford, and allows for consistent tee time blocks at most premium courses. AGS has managed groups ranging from 4 to 28 players.

Do I get group discounts on green fees in Vietnam and Thailand?+

AGS negotiates volume rates on behalf of all clients as a preferred operator at the courses we work with. While we don't pass through individual green fee discounts, our package pricing reflects the preferred rates we've secured. For groups of 12+, AGS can often negotiate dedicated tee time blocks and welcome events at clubhouses.

Can multiple groups (different flight arrivals) be coordinated?+

Yes — AGS frequently manages group itineraries where a proportion of the group arrives on different flights over a 24-hour window. We coordinate separate transfers, villa check-in times, and can stage the opening dinner so arriving members join a group already assembled.

Is a private villa or hotel better for a golf group?+

Private villa — universally, for groups of 6+. A single villa creates a shared social hub (pool, communal dining area, villa staff) that hotels cannot replicate at any price point. It also removes the fragmentation of hotel room check-in, restaurant booking logistics, and scattered dinner reservations. The villa becomes the trip's base, and the trip benefits immensely.

Can AGS run a group golf competition across the trip?+

Absolutely — and we encourage it. AGS provides a Stableford scoring sheet and group leaderboard at the start of every group trip. We can arrange on-course events (closest to pin, longest drive), running trophies, and a formal presentation dinner for the award ceremony. Prizes are the group's responsibility but AGS handles all logistics.
